From bystander to community protector

Referral training helped a motorcycle rider move from silence to safer community action.

Peter · name changed

Peter previously regarded domestic violence as a private family matter. He worried that intervening could create conflict between neighbours.

A NOCAPAD dialogue introduced him to referral pathways and safe ways to respond without escalating violence. He learned where survivors could obtain medical care, psychosocial support, legal assistance and protection.

When he later became aware of violence in a nearby home, Peter contacted a Local Council leader and another trained male champion. Together, they helped the survivor access medical care and referred her to support services.

He now uses conversations with fellow motorcycle riders to discuss respect, child marriage prevention and peaceful relationships. His story highlights the value of coordinated action through trained community members and established services.
