An unnamed survivor and her family

After years of gender-based violence and separation, a mother experienced isolation and deep emotional distress. Reuniting with her daughters brought new tensions, while unresolved trauma continued to affect family relationships.
Through a NOCAPAD-supported psychosocial intervention, family members participated in individual counselling, group counselling, family therapy and regular follow-up visits. These provided safe spaces to discuss their experiences and work towards reconciliation.
The account describes improved communication and stronger mutual support. The daughters began engaging in income-generating activities, while their mother found greater peace in caring for her grandchildren.
This family’s experience shows how ongoing psychosocial support can address the effects of violence beyond an individual survivor, helping relatives rebuild relationships and plan for the future.
“Through counselling, I learned how to heal and rebuild my relationship with my daughters. Today, my family is together again, and I have peace in my heart.”
