Working together to strengthen survivor referrals

A police officer describes better community awareness and links to comprehensive survivor support.

Child and Family Protection Unit officer · unnamed

An officer from the Uganda Police Child and Family Protection Unit describes the difficulties survivors face when they do not know where to seek help or fear retaliation.

The officer credits NOCAPAD’s dialogues, radio discussions, male champion initiatives and community sensitisation with improving awareness of gender-based violence and the importance of protection.

According to the account, community members and trained volunteers increasingly understand the need for early reporting, preserving evidence and linking survivors to medical and psychosocial services. Coordination involves police, health facilities, probation officers, local leaders and the Community Development Office.

The officer also describes increased participation by men as allies. The story presents a stakeholder perspective on working through existing services to support a more connected community response.
